4 September 1999 - 256 RCU celebrates its tenth birthday with a birthday parade and semi formal dinner. The reviewing officer of the parade was Colonel G W Fleeton, Honorary Colonel of Cadets Eastern Region. The platoon commander was CUO David Smith, CSM was WO2(ACC) Andrew McCabe and the platoon sergeant was SGT(ACC) Lorraine Smith. We thank 1/19 RNSWR Pipes and Drums for their support.
24 September 1999 - Cadets from Cootamundra travelled late Friday night to Singleton for a seven day annual camp. With many Junior and Senior NCO's taking part in the Adventure Training Award, Singo this year was good oppertunity for younger cadets to show there stuff. Cadets at the camp were involved in many activities some being, Watermanship which involved racing around Lake St clair in assault gunboats, absailing, Overhead pool confidence course - an array of obstacles suspended over a indoor pool, Obstacle Course, Range Shoot, and Navgiation Exercises. Finally the week was finished with a huge parade on the Infantry Center Parade Ground and a parachute display by the Red Berets.
24 September 1999 - During annual camp this year five cadets CPL(ACC) Nic Bourke, CPL(ACC) Tim Campbell, SGT(ACC) Dale Bowers, SSGT(ACC) Aaron Gray, and WO2(ACC) Andrew McCabe, participated in the ATA (Adventure Training Award). We had been training for months prior to the course and our hard work paid off. Everyone panneled for the course did well with most passing. Assesments included: Navigation through Brokenback Range in the Pokolbin State Forest, 9Km route march with pack webbing and radio, confidence course, obstacle course, range shoot, BFA which incorporated a 2.4 km run in 12 minutes 45 seconds, 65 sit ups, 35 push ups, 1km stretcher carry, survival assesments and much more.
